Curriculum ::..

In 2005, the St. Tammany Parish Public School System created a Guaranteed Curriculum to serve as a written, on-line document to help ensure uniform, high-quality instructional resources across the School System. The Guaranteed Curriculum is locally developed and is a living document, which is constantly reviewed and revised. It focuses on rigor and relevance by building on enduring understandings and essential questions. The on-line document is a guide to what teachers should teach and what students should know and be able to do.

In the 2015-2016 school year, Louisiana conducted a professional review and development of standards for English Language Arts and Math. The K-12 Louisiana Student Standards for English Language Arts and Math began full implementation statewide in the 2016–2017 school year. These standards ensure that strong expectations for teaching and learning align with college and workplace demands as well as establish a clear set of goals and expectations of what students need to learn in reading, writing and math in each grade. The St. Tammany Parish Public School System is working to align its Guaranteed Curriculum with the standards to help teachers meet the needs of the students in their classrooms. It is up to local teachers, principals, and curriculum and instruction supervisors to decide how the standards will be reached. For example in English Language Arts to develop the standard, curriculum teams choose an anchor text for each unit. An anchor text is the text around which a unit is themed. All other texts in a unit support the main ideas of the anchor text. At this time, Louisiana is aligning state assessments and end-of-course tests to the Standards.
