Substitute Appreciation Week
Mandeville High treated our substitutes to lunch all week. Pictured is Diane Derbins, sub extraordinaire who was in the building today. Diane is one of our past Substitute of the Year nominees.
Mandeville Junior High enjoyed a visit by the Mandeville High School Cheerleaders. They performed and answered questions about upcoming tryouts at the high school. Junior Delaney Sheehan was recently selected as a 2011 All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association.
STAR Academy Students
This picture was taken after we attended the STAR Celebration at the Tech Center. The students really bonded at this event, and it shows in this picture. This group wanted to create a mural that would be informative for the entire student body. Students were studying the Mexican muralists and how they used their murals to try to enact change and educate their people. After studying George Rodrigue’s “Blue Dog” students learned how to paint on round surfaces by using pumpkins, which had just come into season. This is just one example. The student artist is Nicole Margavio.
Pro Start students Will Tyler, Sarah Rosenbloom, and Elizabeth Nietert made and served desserts at the West St. Tammany Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon. Also pictured are Pro Start instructor Carolyn Senac and Principal Bruce Bundy.
Enjoy Courtyard Lunch

French Club and Big Brother / Big Sister took part in a football tailgate party for homecoming. 125 students and parents attended. Students enjoyed music and French pastries while gearing up to watch the Skippers beat Ponchatoula. Pictured are members from both clubs line dancing.
A ramp lab with, Connor Joslin, Daniel Hajjar and Ellie Niedermair. The ball rolls up and down the ramp while the motion detector collect data to create a parabolic curve. The students have to determine the equation of the curve using the calculator.
A water lab with Natalie Zimmer, Darian Hummel, and Kieron Oliver. This time the students have to collect data points by measuring the curve created by the water from a water fountain and find the equation of the parabolic curve by hand.

HERO Award Goes To
Jennifer Boudreaux, a senior at Mandeville High School, was selected for December’s HERO award by Sophisticated Woman magazine and Charter Business. HERO stands for “Helping Eagerly and Reaching Out," and the award recognizes young leaders in St. Tammany Parish high schools for their accomplishments and community service efforts. Miss Boudreaux, center, is shown receiving the award from Shelly King, at right, with Charter Business. At left is Principal Bruce Bundy. Miss Boudreaux was commended for coordinating a community fund-raising effort to help Aimee Gold, the wife of Assistant Soccer Coach Mark Gold, in her fight against cancer.
