Explorer Dress Up for Social Studies Project

Students in Mrs. Amanda Keller's class at Lancaster Elementary School dressed as an explorer for a Social Studies project.  They also created powerpoints and posters that included information about the explorer, their exploration routes, and their purpose for exploring.

National WW Museum's Red Ball Express

Students at Lancaster Elementary School participated in a special presentation from the National World War Museum’s Red Ball Express.   This interactive presentation delivered by the Collin Makasom, Student Programs Coordinator, took students on a journey across the globe as they learned about World War II locations on a six-foot inflatable Earth.


Student of the Year Selected

Fifth grade student, Clare Gaganard was selected as Student of the Year for Lancaster Elementary School.  This award recognizes an outstanding student who has demonstrated excellent academic achievement, leadership ability, and citizenship. Pictured:  Susannah Welch, Principal and Clare Gagnard.

5th Grade Science Fair Participants


Superintendent Visits and Presents Certificates

Superintendent W. L. "Trey" Folse, III visited with students at Lancaster Elementary School and spoke to those receiving "Seaworthy Sailor" awards about being role models before helping hand out certificates. The "Seaworthy Sailor" award honors students for demonstrating qualities of an exceptional student and following the FISH philosophy.

Student of the Year Nominees Honored

Outstanding fifth grade students from Lancaster Elementary School who were nominated for Student of the Year were honored at a special reception.  This award recognizes  students who have demonstrated excellent academic achievement, leadership ability, and citizenship.  Students must have maintained at GPA of 3.5 or higher since third grade to be consider for this award.   Clare Gagnard was selected as Lancaster's Student of the Year.

Students Create New Songs

Students in Ms. Joy King’s music class at Lancaster Elementary School created new songs by using popsicle sticks

Students Participate in "Hour of Code"

Students at Lancaster Elementary School  participated in a computer coding program called "Hour of Code."   This is a in a nationwide push to teach children computer science. This program helps nurture creativity and problem solving skills while preparing students for a future career.  All of this is done in a fun and friendly environment.

Milas Love, a student in Traci Melancon's fourth grade class, is clearly having fun while learning to code. 

Third Graders Create Lighthouses

Ms. Dana Holliday's third graders created lighthouses with Ms. Catherine Lynch from the Madisonville Maritime Museum. The lighthouses were used as centerpieces on the tables at the formal dinner event for the members of the Wooden Boat Festival held after the festival. Students learned about different types of lighthouses and the parts of them.

Student Places 3rd in Holiday Card Contest

Lancaster Elementary student Sarah Mouton received 3rd place in the Oschner Northshore Holiday Card Contest. Cards will be sent to Oschner Northshore board members and hospital patients on Christmas Day. Students at Lancaster Elementary participated in Field Day on November 21, 2014.


Students Read Cricket in Times Square

Students in Mrs. Courtney Tierney’s fourth grade class at Lancaster Elementary School recently read the novel, Cricket in Times Square, and they created a timeline of one of the character’s journey from Connecticut to New York City.

Metairie Bank Vice President Visits 5th Graders

5th Grade Gifted students in Mrs. Sarah Meyer’s class at Lancaster Elementary School were recently surprised with a visit from Mr. Paul Myers, Vice President of Metairie Bank. He presented the students with their own checkbooks, checkbook registers, and holders to utilize with their culminating activity of their math unit on decimal numerals.  The purpose of the task is to introduce real life problem while reinforcing the concepts of decimals taught throughout the unit. This culminating task represents the level of depth, rigor, and complexity expected of all fifth grade gifted students to demonstrate evidence of learning. Students were thrilled to learn they’d be able to use “real checkbooks!”

Students Serve as Principal & Assistant Principal for a Day

Sheriff's Office Visits Lancaster

Sheriffs from the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office visited Lancaster Elementary School. Students and staff had the opportunity to rotate through six stations while getting explanations from the sheriffs about their roles as well as the equipment.


Students Perform Native American Cinderella

Mrs. Amy Gates' class did a Reader's Theatre performance of the Native American Cinderella for Ms. Valarie Cyprian's class.

Aftershool Community Education Class

Students at Lancaster Elementary School have the opportunity to participate in afterschool Community Education Classes.  Our cafeteria manager, Beverly Fleming and assistant manager, Lisa Cook lead cooking classes with the students.

Assistant Superintendent Cheryl Arabie visited Mrs. Lindsay Antoine’s third grade class at Lancaster Elementary and read Oh the Places You’ll Go by Dr. Seuss.

Annual Family Learning Night

Lancaster Elementary recently held its annual Family Learning Night.  This year’s theme was “Sporting Our Knowledge.”  Students and their families participated in various learning activities centered around sports.

Seaworthy Sailors Honored

Students who were selected as Seaworthy Sailors at Lancaster Elementary School were honored at a special reception in October. Students were recognized for demonstrating qualities of an exceptional student and following the FISH philosophy.


Local NFL Punt, Pass, and Kick Competition

The local NFL Punt, Pass, and Kick Competition was held at Lancaster Elementary School on September 26, 2014.  Top winners will compete at Sectionals held at Fifth Ward Junior High in Bush, LA on Saturday, October 25, 2014. Madisonville Firefighters Visit

Students in Mrs. Alanna Torrey, Mrs. Jodi Stuker, and Mrs. Renee Thomason’s classes had a special visit from firefighters from District 2 in Madisonville.

Fundraiser Top Sellers Treated to Show

Top selling fundraiser students at Lancaster Elementary School were treated to a spectacular extreme bike show. The students and staff were on the edge of their seats throughout the entire performance.


September 2014

Students Win Prizes in Art Contest

Lancaster Elementary School 5th grade student, Neyland Robinson won grand prize in the Children's Village T-shirt Art Contest for the 25th Annual Wooden Boat Festival in Madisonville, LA.  Neyland's design will be used for the Wooden Boat Festival t-shirts this year.  Other winners from Lancaster in their divisions include 4th grader, Chloe Shartle 2nd place winner and 5th grader, Lillian Tamberg 3rd place winner.


"It's All Greek to Me"

The students in Mrs. Amy Gates' class  at Lancaster Elementary School performed " It's All Greek to Me." The Reader's Theater play is an explanatory myth that the Greeks made up to explain the changing of the seasons. ELA Curriculum Specialist Visits

Missy Moore, ELA Curriculum Specialist visited Lancaster to present to the ELA teachers.


Team Up for Brady

Students, faculty, and staff at Lancaster Elementary School participated in Team Up for Brady to raise money for Brady Evans who is battling Ewing’s Sarcoma.  A generous amount of $2000.00 was collected for Brady's family.


Teacher of the Year

Rochelle Pedersen was chosen as Teacher of the Year for Lancaster Elementary School.

Lancaster Elementary School students, faculty, and staff raised $3,488.41 to be donated to United Way.

Lancaster Elementary Murals
