Community Service Recognition Program Created for High Schools
We are excited to recognize our high school graduates in a new way. Starting in the 2021-22 school year, the Louisiana Department of Education Community Service Diploma Endorsement will be awarded to any graduate who completes over 80 volunteer hours.

This initiative was set forth by our Superintendent Student Advisory Panel. The students wanted a recognition plan that would go further than the state minimum of 80 hours. After working out the details for almost a year, a tiered system was developed with corresponding colored pins to be worn during graduation ceremonies. The system rewards students who go above and beyond. A bronze pin will be awarded for students who complete 80 to 99 hours, silver for 100-119 hours, and gold for 120 hours and above.

“We know how important it is for our students and our school system to give back to the community,” said Superintendent Frank Jabbia. “Our students are already very active in our community and I’m excited that they will now get recognition for their efforts.”

Students will be recognized and asked to stand up during their graduation ceremony by each tier level. The hours are counted cumulatively over four years of high school. In addition to recognition pins, notes will be in graduation programs for each high school student who earns the endorsement.
