Back to School Information
We are aware of Governor Edwards's announcement that Louisiana will move into Phase 3 Friday, September 11. We are awaiting further details and guidance to assess how this will affect our schools and our plans for how students will report to school next week. Our final Safe Start Day for students with the last names beginning with R-Z will attend school Friday as scheduled. We will provide updates as soon as information is available. Thanks for your patience as we make the best decisions for the safety of our students, families, and employees in response to the changing situation and guidance.
As we begin the 2020-2021 school year, our employees have been back at work and diligently preparing the schools to help ensure the safety and well-being of our students. Our district has been preparing for instruction (virtual or in-person) while at the same time addressing the physical, mental, and social well-being of our students and the needs of our community. Health and safety protocols will be in place to help keep students, families, and employees safe and healthy.
This is an unprecedented situation and we appreciate the patience of our STPPS family. From the beginning, we have been in this together, we will begin school together, and we will remain together as we navigate this school year.
Together, We Are STPPS.

Safe Start Days
Students in grades Pre K-12 will begin the school year September 8-11 in a staggered approach with "Safe Start Days" where one-fourth of students will report to school each day. This will be based on the first letter of their last name.
Learning Models in Louisiana Phase 2
If the state remains in Phase 2 after the safe start days, beginning September 14 students in grades Pre K-5 will go to school in person five days a week. Students in grades 6-12 will follow a hybrid schedule with a combination of learning on campus and required distance learning at home. Families also have the choice to enroll their child in the STPPS Virtual School for full-time online learning that is not dependent on the state phases.
What to Expect at School
• Face mask or covering will be required to the greatest extent possible for adults and students in grades 3-12. This is optional for students in grades PK-2.
• Schools will follow cleaning and disinfection guidelines.
• Students and employees will be encouraged to practice good hygiene and wash/clean their hands regularly.
• Social distancing protocols will be implemented including limited bus capacity based on Louisiana's COVID-19 phase.
• STPPS campuses will conduct daily temperature checks for students, employees and essential visitors.
• Students and employees who are sick may not attend school or work.
Visit your school's website for information about drop-off/pick-up procedures, supply lists, meet and greets, before and aftercare, and other school-specific information. Plans and procedures will vary depending on the needs of each school community.
