For the first time, STPPS will have three soccer teams playing for a LHSAA state championship this week at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Lakeshore’s boys and girls soccer teams will play for a state title Thursday while Northshore’s girls team will play for a state championship Friday. On the boys side, the Lakeshore High Titans will face top-seeded Holy Cross in Thursday night’s Division II Boys’ Soccer State Championship. Making its first championship appearance in program history, Lakeshore (22-4-2) has lost only once its last 19 matches. Holy Cross handed Lakeshore its only loss in that stretch on January 24. Kickoff Thursday night is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Ragin’ Cajuns Soccer/Track Complex.
The Lakeshore Lady Titans are making their third championship appearance in the last four years. Lakeshore (19-3-4) brings a 15-match unbeaten streak (11-0-4) into Thursday’s Division II Girls’ Soccer State Championship against top-seeded St. Thomas More. It will be a rematch of the 2017 state title game when the Lady Titans beat STM 1-0 on penalty kicks to win Lakeshore’s first team state championship in school history.
Northshore (17-4-2) is seeking STPPS’s first Division I Girls’ Soccer State Championship since 2004. The Lady Panthers will play District I-4 rival St. Scholastica on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Friday will be the third meeting between Northshore and SSA. The teams drew a 1-1 tie in their first meeting in December before the Doves defeated the Lady Panthers 2-0 in January’s meeting.
STPPS teams have won 6 boys’ soccer state championships and 13 girls soccer state championships. Lakeshore’s girls’ soccer team won the 2017 Division II state title on penalty kicks to win the district’s first girls’ soccer title in 13 years. Lakeshore’s boys’ soccer team is looking to become the district’s first state champions since Mandeville in 1996.
