CTE Students Recognized

STPPS Career Technical Education (CTE) programs provide rigorous and relevant coursework that prepares the workforce of tomorrow for high-wage and high-demand career. Students from three high schools were recognized at the May 11 Committee As A Whole Meeting for their outstanding achievements in our CTE programs.

Welding teams from Fontainebleau High and Covington High both competed in the FFA State Welding Competition after qualifying at both the District 12 and the Area 4 regional competitions. The Louisiana state competition consisted of the top 16 teams in the state. Fontainebleau High’s welding team of Austin Guy, Nick Mascari and welding instructor John O’Bryant finished third overall at the FFA State Welding Competition in Baton Rouge. Guy and Mascari tied for fourth place overall in the individual competition. Teammate Logan Anderson placed first in the state at the Associated Builders and Contractors Craft Welding Competition in St. Rose.

Covington High’s welding team of Scott Quigley, Dalton Bridges and welding instructor Payton Monteleone finished fourth overall at the state competition.

Lakeshore High’s ProStart team continues to perform at the highest level. The team placed first in the ProStart Culinary Competition and third in the ProStart Management Competition at the 16th annual Louisiana Seafood ProStart Student Invitational in March. Additionally, the teams earned awards for Best Appetizer and Best Dessert. The team represented Louisiana at the National Competition where they placed 20th out of 49 teams. Each student on the Culinary Team (Mackenzie Fomby, Leighanne Lachney, Sherran Marx, Olivia Salazar and Victoria Schaff) received a $130,000 scholarship to attend culinary school, while each student on the Management Team received a $74,000 scholarship.
