Team St. Tammany, comprised of six STPPS students, finished second overall at the 2017 Louisiana Schools Elementary Fitness Meet held April 15 at LSU's Carl Maddox Field House.
It was the team's best finish since STPPS began competing at the event seven years ago.
Mandeville Middle's Emily Arnold was Team St. Tammany's top individual performer, placing as the third overall girl in the state of Louisiana. Arnold finished first in the standing long jump, second in the shuttle run and third in sit and reach.
Additionally, Lancaster's Kota Henry posted first-place finishes in the 600-yard run and pull-ups, while Mandeville Middle's Alex Avegno finished first in sit and reach. Lake Harbor Middle's Rebecca Sellers finished third in pull-ups.
All told, Team St. Tammany brought home seven medals.
Team St. Tammany featured six students chosen at the District Fitness Meet held at Lakeshore High School in March. Students included Kota Henry (Lancaster Elementary), Alex Avegno (Mandeville Middle), Emily Arnold (Mandeville Middle), Rebecca Sellers (Lake Harbor Middle), Jordan Carter (Tchefuncte Middle) and Cedric Thompson (Folsom Elementary).
