A Champion Homecoming

Two weeks after winning the boys' state championship Slidell High's Kodi Dangerfield added another award to his resume: national champion.

Dangerfield won the state title at the 198 lb. class and bested the nation's best at the USA Powerlifting High School National Meet in Scranton, Pa., to become the national champion in his weight class.

When Dangerfield arrived at Slidell High on Monday, he was greeted with a champion homecoming, complete with a congratulatory sign in front of the school.

"I have been very blessed to coach a lifter like Kodi," said head coach Caleb Peterson, a STPPS alum. "He is such a humble kid. I am so proud of Kodi and what he has accomplished, but above all, I am proud of the young man that he is."

Three STPPS students won individual national championships at the USA Powerlifting High School National Meet. Covington High's Trai Chatman (114 pounds) and Grace Albarez (97 pounds) won individual titles to lead CHS to the team national title.
