An overcast morning turned into a sunny afternoon for nearly 80 STPPS students during the District Elementary Fitness Meet at Lakeshore High School.
Four student representatives from 20 schools competed in the 50-yard dash, standing long jump, shuttle run, pull-ups, curl-ups, sit and reach and the 600-yard run.
Awards were given to the top three boys and girls finished in each event. The top three schools and the top overall boys and girls performers were recognized as well.
Lancaster Elementary was the top overall team winner, followed by Mandeville Middle and Tchefuncte Middle.
Mandeville Middle swept the top boys and girls performers as Alex Avegno and Emily Arnold finished first. It was the second straight year Arnold was the top girls' performer. Lancaster's Kota Henry finished second on the boys' side, followed by Folsom Elementary's Cedric Thompson in third.
On the girls' side, Lake Harbor's Rebecca Sellers finished second and Tchefuncte's Jordyn Carter came in third overall.
The 2017 Louisiana State Elementary Fitness Meet will be held April 15 at LSU's Carl Maddox Field House in Baton Rouge.
