Special Olympics Track and Field Meets To Be Held
The annual Special Olympics Area Track and Field Meet will be held at Fontainebleau High School on Wednesday, March 6, 2013. Senior high school athletes with special needs from throughout St. Tammany Parish will be taking part in a number of activities.
Beginning at 9:45 a.m., more than one hundred athletes will compete in the 50 and 100 meter walk/run, 25 meter wheel chair race, shot put, softball throw, standing long jump, and a variety of developmental games. The event is coordinated by the St. Tammany Parish Adapted Physical Education Department.
The meet starts with a parade of athletes and a lighting of the torch. Fontainebleau High School’s Bulldog Buddy Club is providing volunteers for the event. Parents, community members and track enthusiasts are invited to attend and cheer for our athletes.
Later this month, on March 20, a Special Olympics Track and Field Meet will be held for junior high athletes. That event will take place at the Sidney Theriot Stadium at Mandeville High School, beginning at 9:45 a.m.
More than 100 junior high participants will be competing in several activities, including shot put, softball throw, standing long jump, and a wheelchair race.
