LEAP Testing Dates Announced for Nonpublic and Home-Schooled Students
The St. Tammany Parish Public School System will administer the LEAP (Louisiana Educational Assessment Program) test to students in grades 4 and 8 in two phases. Students must attend both phases. Phase 1 testing will be on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, and Phase 2 testing will be held Monday, April 8 and Tuesday April 9, 2013.
If a student DOES NOT participate in Phase 1, then he/she must wait until summer to take the LEAP assessment allowing only one opportunity for the student to pass.
Students whose parents currently reside in Louisiana and who wish to enroll in St. Tammany Parish public schools in the fifth or ninth grades for the 2013-2014 school year must have passed the fourth and/or eighth grade LEAP test.
A student may not be promoted to the 5th or 9th grade until he/she has scored at or above the Basic achievement level on either the English Language Arts or Mathematics component on the 4th or 8th grade of LEAP and at the Approaching Basic achievement level on the other; officially referred to as the Basic/Approaching Basic combination. The LEAP High Stakes Testing Policy can be found on the Louisiana Department of Education website at www.louisianaschools.net.
The deadline to submit the application is March 8, 2013. All testing will take place at a parish school site, and administration of these tests will follow the same instructions and conditions as provided to public school students. As provided by state regulations, a fee of $35 will be charged for the test and must accompany the returned application. This fee is refundable when the student begins attendance in St. Tammany Parish Public Schools.
