Read for the Record Day ::..

All day people were wondering why the bear ate their sandwich.

Thousands of students and adults at 29 schools can now answer that question after participating in “Read for the Record.”

Special guests read to students, and teachers read and planned lessons around this year’s book  “The Bear Ate Your Sandwich” by Julia Sarcone-Roach.

On the annual Read for the Record Day, millions of people read the same book to help set a world record and inspire children to read.

Folsom Elementary Kindergartners, who are the future members of the STPPS Class of 2029, joined in the reading experience with the help of special visitor Superintendent Folse.

YOLO. Be Drug Free. ::..

Our schools are celebrating Red Ribbon Week this week to raise awareness of the importance of being drug free.

This year's theme is YOLO: Be Drug Free #YouOnlyLiveOnce.

Students and employees are participating in special activities and dress-up days and hosting visitors and guest speakers to reinforce the drug free message.

Celebrating Bus Drivers, Attendants & School Bus Safety ::..

The week of October 17-21st was School Bus Safety Week as well as School Bus Operators and Attendants Appreciation Week.

School bus drivers in St. Tammany cover more than 39,000 miles daily transporting approximately 28,500 students.

St. Tammany has dedicated school bus operators and school bus attendants who spend considerable time and energy in ongoing training to maintain skills and keep current knowledge of school bus laws and safety procedures through continuing education, as well as careful bus maintenance and thorough inspections.

The 2016 district Teachers and Principals of the Year were honored in front of a packed board room during the October School Board Meeting.

Cheers and thunderous applause from fellow teachers, administrators and family welcomed each honoree as Superintendent W. L. “Trey” Folse, III spoke of their many accomplishments and their dedication to their students.

“These teachers and principals represent the best of the best, and as you can see from the tremendous showing of support here tonight they are well respected and valued as educators and members of the community.
