Community Involvement ::..

Schools in the parish benefit from supportive parents, business and civic partners and the community at large. School referendums calling for financial support of the School System have been approved regularly over the years. Business and civic organizations provide a variety of resources to schools, including internships for students and teachers, mentoring, participation in advisory committees, donations, promotion of school events and many more.

Parent involvement is the heart of success in St. Tammany schools. Through cooperation with teachers and school administrators, presence at school functions and ongoing support of local public education, parents make a major contribution to the School System. Each year school volunteers log hundred of thousands of hours of service, and the local district PTA and school PTA's have received national and state awards for outstanding contributions to education.

Community input into System policies is invited through involvement in special committees, such as strategic planning, school improvement plans, discipline code, grading and retention, capital improvements, school attendance boundaries, etc. Public participation in special public meetings and at monthly School Board meetings provides others outlets for input.
