Unit Length and Description:

5 Weeks

This unit will illustrate how rules and routines are used throughout the year. Lessons in phonemic awareness, phonics, listening comprehension, vocabulary, writing, and oral language are provided in this unit. Students will learn that every person is special and unique. They will get to know and share information about themselves, their friends, animal friends, and family members. The phonics focus will highlight short vowels and consonants to help build words. Sentences, including a sentence frame, descriptive writing, and persuasive writing are all introduced in this unit. Students will also learn about analyzing story and text structure. Character, setting, sequencing, and defining the author are comprehension skills included. Students practice to build fluency by reading exclamations, pausing for sentence punctuation, and learning about reading patterns.
