School System Wins Press Club Awards ::..
The Communications Department and School System Educational Television Station Channel 13 won honors at the 56th annual Press Club of New Orleans Awards Banquet on July 19 in New Orleans. This is the seventh year in a row the St. Tammany Parish Public School System has won recognition from the Press Club for outstanding communications projects.
The School System’s social media efforts won a first place award in the Public Relations Social Media Category with the award going to Director of Communications Meredith Mendez and Communications Manager Angela Daviston. Ms. Daviston also won a first place award in the category of Public Relations Photography for her work on the Covington Learning Community Showcase DVD Jacket.
Students Learn TV Skills at Channel 13 Summer Video Institute ::..
The twelfth annual Summer Video Institute (SVI) conducted by the School System’s educational television station, Channel 13, was held this past week with 15 students taking part from public high schools across St. Tammany Parish. The week-long event offered a comprehensive overview of video production skills, both in the field and in the editing room.
Four student produced videos were created, focusing on regional places and people of interest. This year’s SVI productions showcased St. Joseph Abbey

New Teacher Induction Welcomes Educators to School System ::..
More than 200 recently-hired educators new to the St. Tammany Parish Public School System attended a New Teacher Induction program at the David C. Treen Instructional Technology Center on July 15, learning about the opportunities and procedures to get their St. Tammany Parish Public School System career off to a good start.
Superintendent W. L. “Trey” Folse, III, welcomed the group, sharing with them the School System's theme of "Every Child, Every Day."
Throughout the program speakers provided the new teachers with information specific to managing classroom procedures, engaging students, setting instructional goals, and using technology effectively.
Patrick Mackin Named Louisiana State Junior High School Principal of the Year ::..
Principal Patrick Mackin of Slidell Junior High was named Louisiana State Principal of the Year in the Middle/ Jr. High Division in ceremonies Saturday night hosted by the State Department of Education in Baton Rouge.
Superintendent W. L. "Trey" Folse and several School System representatives were in attendance to congratulate him for winning the honor. "He is a great educator and leader," Superintendent Folse said.
Also honored by the state at the event was Robin Day, a teacher at Little Oak Middle School in Slidell, who was named as a state finalist in the Louisiana State Department of Education Teacher of the Year recognition program for 2015. Mackin was one of ten finalists in the Louisiana State 2015 ...
Online Student Learning Program Now Registering ::..
Registration for the 2014-2015 online student learning program provided by the St. Tammany Parish Public School System is now underway. Students who are already in the School System can call 985-898-3309 for an application, and students who are not in the public school system can register by going with their parents to one of the School Board annex offices in Covington or Slidell. The application process is on a first come, first served basis.
