Parish Fair Preparations ::..
Teachers from around St. Tammany Parish were on the move at the Parish Fair setting up school exhibit booths in the educational building Tuesday.
Each of the 55 booths are colorfully decorated and unique in their interpretation of this year’s theme of “On the Move”. Flight, advances in technology, fitness, academic progress and transportation are just a few examples of the direction some of the schools took in their interpretation of the theme.
A variety of student work makes up each exhibit and can be seen in the form of drawings, sculptures, writing, photography and even some interactive pieces.

The Board invites citizens interested in being considered to fill the unexpired term of office for St. Tammany Parish School Board, District 14, to send a letter of interest as well as their notification that they meet the qualifications to hold the office of Board Member to the Board President to be received by noon on Wednesday, October 1, 2014. Such letter should include contact information and state the person’s age, the current primary residence address within District 14, the length of residence in District 14, the length of residence in Louisiana and provide any other supporting information to assist Board Members in assessing the credentials and experience of the candidate.
Pelican Park Honors School Board Member ::..
Recreation District #1, known as Pelican Park, recently celebrated its 25th anniversary with a variety of special events for kids and adults. The park works closely with the St. Tammany Parish Public School System on a number of events throughout the year.
As part of the celebration, the park awarded St. Tammany Parish School Board Member Ronald “Ron” Bettencourtt with a Making A Difference
Award. The award celebrates the contributions Mr. Bettencourtt has made over the years to the many children who visit the park facilities.

The Governmental Affairs Committee of the St. Tammany West Chamber of Commerce donated copies of the U.S. Constitution to seventh grade American History students at eight St. Tammany Parish Public Schools in recognition of Constitution Day.
Representatives of the Governmental Affairs Committee delivered the booklets to Pitcher Junior High Friday, where Superintendent W. L. “Trey” Folse, III, Principal Raphael Tillman and Pitcher students accepted the donation.

School Board Member Ray Alfred Passes Away ::..
St. Tammany Parish School Board member Ray A. Alfred passed away on September 17, 2014, at the age of 60. Mr. Alfred was a lifelong resident of St. Tammany Parish and a champion for the children of the parish. He represented the constituents of District 14 for 24 years, during 6 terms of service.
